un article sur ce dont je parlais hier soir
(http://www.football365.com/story/0,1...416583,00.html) MANYOO LIVID WITH ROONEY BAN ManYoo are reportedly - and understandably - furious with the FA after the three-match bans of Wayne Rooney and Paul Scholes were upheld by Soho Square's disciplinary panel following their dismissals in the Amsterdam Tournament. Not least within the FA itself, itwas widely believed that Rooney's red card against Porto would be reduced to a yellow card. The striker appeared to make minimal contact with Brazilian defender Pepe as he made what was commonly regarded as a legitimate attempt to win a header. However, the three-man independent disciplinary commission confounded expectations by voting unanimously that Rooney had been guilty of violent contact. Already enraged at a dismissal which he believed was just the latest example of referees targeting Rooney because of "his name", Sir Alex Ferguson is livid at the apparent double standards exercised by the commission. Just three years ago, two Liverpool players, Steven Gerrard and Neil Mellor, escaped bans after being sent off in the same tournament. Graham Bean, the former FA compliance officer who ManYoo hired to present their appeal, raged afterwards: "The inconsistencies which the FA have applied in this matter are a disgrace. The whole system relating to appeals of this nature needs to be completely overhauled. "The inconsistency is embarrassing to the FA. Three years ago, two Liverpool players were sent off in the same competition and received no additional bans. So why are Manchester United different? There needs to be a radical change and no doubt the FA will now try to bolt the stable door after the horse has bolted. The FA should be supportive of players in cases like this." Rooney is currently struggling to overcome a niggling groin injury in time for Saturday's opening-day fixture with Fulham for which he remains eligible. However, as he will be suspended for the following matches with Watford, Charlton and Tottenham, as well as England's Euro 2006 qualifiers against Andorra and Macedonia in the first week of September, his season is unlikely to begin until September 12 when ManYoo make their opening appearance in the Champions League. |
