❖ Nantucket Sims Coast Guard Information The Nantucket Sims Coast Guard (NSCG) is PARTLY a role play Coast Guard group. We are also an eye on the water ande in the air for the estate owners, patrolling the waters of the United Sailing Sims (USS), offering help and assisting in the cleanup of water hazards such as stray prims and boats as well as reporting and stopping any reckless water/air craft. The NSCG is mostly a private effort and while the group has no special authority, we encourage fellow visitors on the waters of the USS to observe the guidelines set forth by the sim owners and yield right of way where appropriate. ✔ Nantucket Sims Coast Guard Disclaimer The Nantucket Sims Coast Guard (NSCG) is a private group, not associated with any real life Coast Guard group. Neither is it officially backed or the representative of the owners of the United Sailing Sims (USS). The NSGC is merely a collection of private citizens having fun and trying to be helpful. ✔ General Recommendations The NSCG recommends a draw distance of 160m or more while traversing the waters of the USS. The waterways of the USS are optimized for a high draw distance and this will better allow you to navigate around the waters and traffic of the USS. Additionally, we highly recommend the use of the mini-map, which you can activate by pressing CTRL-SHIFT-M. Keep this in the corner of your screen and you'll be able to see approaching watercraft (The green dots are people) and the End of World (EoW) where there are no sims to travel into. You can resize your mini-map to make it larger than the default and you may right click on it and choose "Zoom Far" to see even further ahead than normal (Particularly useful in the USS). If you find it the mini-map rotating as you look around to be disorientating, you can disable it in your preferences menu (CTRL-P) under the "General" tab, look for "Rotate Mini-Map" and uncheck it, then press "OK". While the USS has been optimized for extra-sim travel there are some things you should keep in mind when travelling across sim borders. It's best to make region crossings at a slow speed, around or below 25m/s, faster crossings may lead to difficulty. Always approach a region crossing straight-on, do not be in the middle of a turn while crossing (Though you do not have to cross at right angles). Never make a four corner cross diagonally, always travel from one sim to another directly. ❖ NSCG Recommend Guidelines For Travel In The United Sailing Sims ❶ Suggested Speed Ceiling The NSCG recommends a speed limit of 25m/s (Meters Per Second) or 55mph/90kph in high traffic areas. This should allow captains enough time to react to oncoming boats due to the nature of draw distance clipping in Second Life. Similarly, a draw distance of at least 160m is recommended if not 256m or 512m, to fully see the area around you and ahead of your craft. Please Note that we do take action twoards a ban if the limit is exceded by any more than 40mph. In addition, please be respectful to the Coast Guard Personnel, if you respect us we respect you, and if you are respectful, theres a better chance we wont bug you about going too fast the first time your stopped. ❷ Craft Restrictions Most any sort of craft is allowed within the waters of the USS, be it a submarine, plane or boat (Though land vehicles are disallowed in many areas as there are no roads) but there are some restrictions to their use. It is requested that all aircraft maintain a flight floor of 50m, that is to say that they cruise above 50m except of course when taking off or landing. Additionally submarines should try to stay deep enough so as not to impact boats overhead, a submerged ceiling of 15m or below is a good guideline except when deliberately riding on the surface. Finally, many areas limit the total prims of any craft to 300 prims or less including all vehicle attachments. This is because boats with prims in excess of this can be a significant drain on the resources of the simulator and client, particularly in crowded areas. As such it is asked that visitors not wear boats with prims in excess of 300 numerically. ❸ Right Of Way Right of way should always be given to the least maneuverable boat, by and large that is the sailboats that frequent the USS. If relatively close one should slow and pass on the right or starboard side (Your right/starboard) of the craft in question. If a NSCG boat is chasing you with sirens blaring, slow and come to a stop, the NSGC officer may wish to inform you about an ongoing race in the area or etc. Regattas, official boat races put on by the various yachting clubs in the USS, always have right of way. Race officials will likely ask passersby to clear the race area as the regatta approaches, even leaving the sim entirely. Please do not take offense at this, as it is done due to the limited resources of Second Life simulators, the area of the race needs to be completely clear to ensure optimal performance. There are several races performed in various areas each week, you can see a mostly complete listing of all the races at the following web site (http://zatzai.com/calendar/sailing.php). ❹ Water Litter Please clean up after yourself, invisible boat husks are a continuing problem in races on the waters of the USS. Prim litter and abandoned boats (Those on the open water) will have their owners and the appropriate sim manager informed so that the items in questioned might be cleaned up as quickly as possible. We understand that crashes and bad region crossings happen and sometimes boats get away but please do what you can to help keep our waterways clean. If you happen across prim litter or abandoned boats during your travels, please inform us so that we may mark the item and inform the proper estate manager so that the item can be removed. ❖ How To Reach Us If you have any questions, comments or concerns, or just want to inform us about an abandoned boat please see our point of contact or come visit us in world at our home base in the Cutty Hunk sim.

"A new Mainland sailing area will soon appear off the coast of Nautilus in a joint community project between Linden Lab and the estate owners of the United Sailing Sims (USS) group" l'article ici Bon vent les marins |
