Here it is, my lovelies:

Q: The wisp summoned by my Astral Belt of Positive energy did not heal me. Is it broken?

A: The guys in testing checked it out, and it works fine - it's not supposed to heal you until you're at 45% of your total hit points or lower, though, so it’s possible you need to be a little bloodier before you see some Astral love.

Q: Were vampiir heat claw attacks designed to be unresistable (at least in the Thidranki level range?) Or am I just having VERY bad luck?

A: Our Spell Goddess investigated (meaning she tried it out and checked the server) and replied: "The Heated Claw spell line is not set up to skip resists - so you shouldn't have any problem resisting it.

Also note, the Vampiir has the Cutting Claw line which deal Matter damage, and the Chilled Claw line which deals Cold damage.

Unless you're absolutely sure that you're being hit with Heated Claw, I'd suggest making sure you also have some Matter and Cold resist to even your odds "

Q: I am a minstrel. I have a drum I got from the ML9 drop. It's called a Duskwood Thunder Skin Drum. Its stats are Crush/Slash/Thrust 6% with Bonus to spell duration: 10%, and Bonus to stat enhancement spell effectiveness 5%. My question is, is the Bonus to stat enhancement spell effectiveness 5% a mistake?

A: Yes! Thanks for reporting this. Our Mistress of All Things Not Questish says "The stat enhancement bonus is indeed a mistake. The Thunder Skin drum will from now on have bonus to Armor Factor instead, and will be retroactively changed."

(Of course, this only applies to the Albion version of this item. The Mid and Hib versions will remain as it was.)

Q: Why can't I seem to turn in any ToA remains into the taxidermist? He'll take all my classic and SI remains.

A: From your crazy friend in CS: "There are actually two sets of taxidermists at every market. One will take classic and SI remains as you discovered while the other will take ToA remains. The way to tell which is which is that the one that takes classic remains always wears plain looking classic armor while the one that takes ToA remains wears ToA armor."

Your not-crazy friend in CS wanted me to add that the taxidermist can only process one item at a time, so let him finish stuffing your item and return it to you before you hand him another.

Q: How does item X affect my Vampiir's chance to evade?

A: I sent this to the content team, who sent it to Code Ed to be certain, and finally, this email came to me: "According to Code Ed the Wise, Vampiir parry and evade rates are a flat percentage, and are unaffected by item bonuses."

Q: I am playing an enchanter, and it seems that the Ally heals a great deal. But I have noticed a trend: when, say, the mids/albs are rushing into a tower we owned, and I have the pet on "stay away from the stairs" so that I can PBAOE, the pet heals nothing. Just stands there twiddling its thumbs and watches as its master dies. The group I was in just now had three enchanters and three Allies out, and none of them even tried to heal as the rest of the group got pounded!

Any reason why they only heal half the time?

A: Our Spell Goddess replies: "Your pet needs line of sight to you, in order to heal you.

"If the pet was visible to your character, try casting a buff or heal on it and see if you get a "Target not in view" message."

Please note that if you get that message, and you can see the pet perfectly well (remember to look in first person mode - sometimes you can see more in third person than the LOS code tolerates), then please note the /loc of the pet, your /loc, and the name of the zone, and send in a bug report. Thanks in advance for your help.

Q: I started experimenting with different item templates recently and I am a bit concerned in regards to the CHANTS line on the paladin. With most trained skills. the Bonus +11 at level 50 enhances the trained skill, eg, 50+11 slash does more damage per hit than just 50 slash. I tried a 50+template with 50+0 chants and then one with 50+11 to chants and there was no noticeable difference what so ever.

I guess the main thing I am asking is "does it make a difference, but too small a difference to notice?" Or perhaps I'm asking "if it doesn't make a difference, then can you please work it into your next patch so it works like every other trained skill?" I love the paladin class and this seems to be the only drama I have found with them.

A: The only drama? Wait until you discover the double speccing discussion. One of the people in the Team Lead Report meeting this morning, where the topic came up, plays a paladin. She has a 50th level paladin, actually. If looks could kill, I would be worm food.

But I digress.

By design, "Chants, Pacification (Healer spec line), Mind (Sorcerer spec line), Savagery (Savage ability line), and Thrown (Midgard's thrown weapon skill line) are not affected by realm rank bonuses, and they are also not affected by items." There should not be any items in the game with +chants, +pac, etc.

The exact reason for this design choice is somewhat convoluted, but boils down to "the designers wanted those lines to do specific things without the possibility of outside augmentation."

Q: Why do you fix X when Y needs to be fixed?

A: The most common version of this question has X being a content related issue, and Y being something else entirely.

For example, there might be a patch note about an upgraded piece of art, or a better looking monster. Artists and content people are not programmers. There's no reason for artists or encounter designers to sit around doing nothing just so patch notes for "X and Y" can come out at the same time, eh?

Another thing to consider - some changes do not require gobs of argument and discussion. The whole conversation goes "Do you have time to fix this?" "Yes." "Okay, then." Other things, such as most issues involved in class balance, take meetings like you would not believe. Incredibly dull meetings, in my opinion, usually ending with someone having a fit and waving spreadsheets. First everyone has to agree that there needs to be a fix, then how much of a fix, and THEN how to do the fixing. Ever see a message board discussion of what "needs" to be done, and how there's never a totally unanimous point of view? It's like that on the inside of a game company, too, you know.

In case you can't tell, I'm possibly the only person in the entire gaming industry who would rather eat glass shards than be a class designer.

Anyway, if you ever wonder why X is done and Y is not, the odds are excellent that entirely different people are responsible for the two things, and the internal arguments over Y are still in progress.

I am incredibly slack when it comes to cleaning out my "suspected spam" folder. 99% of it is pure junk mail, and I'd rather read the mail I KNOW is legit. But every so often, I find a little gem in there, and the most recent gem has inspired me to be more diligent about checking that folder. A month and a half ago (yikes!), I was sent a letter asking me to toss some traffic to a new Camelot website. Better late than never, I hope - so, please, everyone, go to http://www.camelotcentral.net/ and check it out. And please accept my apologies, Central guys, the site looked nifty.

Don't forget the Camelot Roundtable Roadtrip - next stop, Concord, Ontario on March 19!

Team Lead Report meeting? Yes, the meetings where I sit down a small selection of designers and implementers and READ THE TL REPORTS OUT LOUD, line by line, have commenced! It should have started weeks ago, but we're in a bit of a transition phase here on the Herald team, interviewing new people and more. But the Team Leads have waited long enough, so Missy and I are filling the gap. Already there have been thirty individual items placed on either the bug list or the approved improvements list. It will take time to go through the remaining 580 items, but we're plugging away with a happy heart.

All right, stick a fork in me, I'm done. See you Monday. A little bird tells me the weather is calling for partly sunny with a 60% chance of patch notes!
Source.
