Hi,
I was a French administrator of one of the largest Neverwinter Nights 1 French servers: FastFrench. You do not know me and yet many people who bought NWN 1 have at least spent some time on our server and some have spent hundreds of hours. I am writing to you because I would like to know the exact reasons for the termination of your collaboration with Gamespy. Why has a community of players been deprived of this really helpful platform? The game was never intended to be played in single player campaign, the beauty of this game is that the players have the ability to build their own server and their own community. Today, following the disappointment of the new Neverwinter, I would really like to get the NWN 1 community together again, which would currently be impossible as the master server has been disconnected, creating numerous security problems. What Gamespy provided was for all active servers to be listed and made it easy to connect to them. The demand is huge, the "rollistes" ("Roleplayers" in French) currently do not have a game where they can meet: WoW, Neverwinter, Guild Wars... These games just do not provide the creative freedom that NWN did. Today NWN is still for sale on GoG but I honestly wonder what interest there is for the players to buy it, 10 months after the end of multiplayer support by Gamespy. There is a market for online RPG roleplayers, the re-opening of a multiplayer support platform for NWN would be a blessing for many players. The current problem of Neverwinter Nights is the lack of communication as people (including the French) have been working "in their corner" on improvements for the game but these have remained separate and incompatible, generally speaking. Imagine that a player buys NWN on GoG, he would experience great difficulty in enjoying the experience of online gaming. This in itself is the total opposite of the whole spirit of NWN. It is possible to cite many examples of these improvements: Project Q http://www.qnwn.net/home/ NWNCQ http://social.bioware.com/forum/1/to...ndex/3124678/1 CEP http://nwvault.ign.com/cep/ There really is a huge community behind these projects and it would take a small team of developers to patch the game officially to ensure its evolution, most of the work has already been done by the community. If it is absolutely impossible for financial reasons, the bare minimum we would all need is Gamespy or an equivalent so that players can at least see what servers are out there and we can get new players easily and continue this great adventure. If you are still interested in Neverwinter Nights 1, and simply need a community manager to assist you in France, I'd be more than happy to help you. Armand M. |
