Hi, I'm Citan, an engineer on the AC2 live team. I helped analyze the skills and helped work out some of the changes. I know this announcement is very upsetting for Ferals, but I'd like to talk about why we did this.
First, the changes we made are bug fixes in terms of what the original designers intended. The 5/5 skills were supposed to be exclusive-blocking in the original design. This is a long-standing bug. (You could argue that since it's been there for so long, it's not a bug -- it's a feature. That's a defensible argument, and people here have made that point.) Similarly, the fact that Hunger has a 1-second reset time is, simply put, a mistake in the skill data. It's not supposed to be that fast. The pets, too, are not intended to be the best pets in the game, but currently they are. They were not rebalanced when the other pets were redone in beta, resulting in overkill. Let me give you the numbers on some other pets, so you can compare.
Current Beetle: 20*level HP, 2*level armor, 6*level damage.
Brat: 5*level HP, 2*level armor, 4*level damage.
Minor: 20*level HP, 3*level armor, 3*level damage.
Blade of Frost: 5*level HP, 1*level armor, 6*level damage.
Wall of Ice: 30*level HP, 4*level armor, 2*level damage.
Lasher: 15*level HP, 1*level armor, 3*level damage.
Sand Fiend: 25*level HP, 4*level armor, 5*level damage.
Invoked Avenger: 40*level HP, 4*level armor, 5*level damage.
The only pets anywhere near as good as a pre-nerf beetle are the Sand Fiend and the Avenger, the top offensive pets for the pet-heavy classes. These pets have reset times of 90 seconds and 120 seconds, respectively. The beetle has a reset time of 30 seconds.
With the Feral Intendant's great pets (and the taunt/detaunt from the main tree), he is one of the best pet classes in the game. PLUS, with two health drains and some great debuffs, the Feral Intendant is one of the best solo classes in the game. PLUS, with stackable 5/5 buffs that improve run speed, attack rate, and hit points, the Feral Intendant is one of the best PvP classes in the game. And say nothing of PvM -- in PvM a well-equipped Feral Intendant can solo two group-statted monsters without much danger of dying. She can take whole armies of lesser monsters simultaneously, and afterwards, immediately jump into a PvP battle, because she'll still be at full health. Put simply: Feral Intendants are the most powerful and versatile class in the game by a long shot.
We don't like nerfs. It's a terrible feeling to log in and be weaker than you were yesterday. We prefer to fix balance issues with buffs and content improvements. But at some point that is just impractical. The Feral Intendant was WAY out there.
Let me put it this way: we heavily nerfed the Feral Intendant for March, but he is still able to solo group monsters. He's still more deadly than a Defender, still has better pet skills than any other class except the pure pet classes, and still has tremendous versatility compared to most of the other classes. I still want to play a Feral Intendant. He's still awesome.
