My guess is we won't even see this until 2004.

Well maybe a bit sooner than that! One of the programmers informed me today that they've spent some time on this issue and hope to have stackable crafting items in April or May. Our previews will contain more information once it has been decided that will appear

Can we get some information from the developers on this very annoying bug, and some sort of details on when we could expect a fix or at the very least a promise that those of us who lost out due to this bug that we'll eventually get our skill points back? I would appreciate this.

The issue here isn't that the system is broken, just that the crafting system isn't communicating information to you as well as it could. We need to explain some of the underlying crafting mechanics to help you understand. As most crafters know, each vocation has its own skill point cap. This is due to the crafting system's difficulty curve. If your skill in a vocation exactly matches the difficulty of the recipe, you have a 50% chance of failing. The higher your skill, the lower your chance of failing, but you still have a small chance of failure. The cap ensures that each recipe always has some sort of chance for failure, since there should always be some chance. It should be noted that tools and workshops can raise your skill above that cap.
